Top 100 DJs 2009 by DJ Mag

Trackitdown.net and its subsidiary, DJ Mag, have been a great source of information to DJ’s around the globe. The two are a cornerstone to the dance music industry, supplying not only great music, but also providing intuitive interviews with everyone’s favorite live acts and DJ’s as well as information on the newest gear.

Every year these guys have you, the listeners, vote to see who is keeping the dance floors pumping around the world. They have recently published the results from this year’s top 100 list. I must say this year there are more new comers and rank changes than I have ever seen.

This year, along with all the new names you will see on the list, there are many live acts from the past and the present making the grade. It takes years of playing gigs around the world and pushing the limit of the performance to even get close to this kind of status! More than any other genre, trance and house DJ’s and acts lead the pack on this year’s list. I believe this is because house and trance have built a massive foundation globally in the past decade. Still, breaks, drum & bass, and even dub step continue to hold their own; however the trance and house movements are set in stone in so many countries that they will always hold a place at the top.

You will see many changes from last year’s top 100, but the heavy weights keep their ranks locked in place. Armin Van Buren holds the number one position on lock, while Tiesto and Above & Beyond remain in the top five! Surprisingly, you will see guys like Paul Van Dyke drop from third to fifth and crowd favorites like Deadmau5 jump up from eleventh to sixth. Drum & bass veteran, Andy C, took the biggest drop from the half way spot at fifty to one hundred. Finally, there is house legend, Robbie Rivera, making his second debut on the top 100 and electro step pioneer, John B, making his first debut at number ninety two.

You will not see many classics like BT, Timo Maas, and DJ Dan this year. It looks like these guys are busy making the tunes that top 100 will be playing over the next few years. All in all, there has been loads of progress for these guys on a major scale around the world. With a new decade upon us, it’s certain that we will see many new, amazing DJ’s and live acts that will blow our minds far beyond what we could have ever expected!
