We’ve all wondered what goes on up in that DJ booth. Now here’s your chance to get a small taste of what it’s like!
Okay first off, I just want to say that this was totally my idea. Not really, but I’m sure all of us EDM lovers, after playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero, thought about making DJ version. Well it’s finally here and I have to say, I want it more than I’ve ever wanted anything before… that includes my Easy Bake Oven that one year for Christmas.
This is a lot easier than those other band games in that you don’t have to go on any world tours or worry about adding/losing fans; it just focuses on the music. (Novel idea right?) You work through sets of tracks to unlock more songs, costumes, and characters–yeah you can’t create your own DJ, but hey, you can unlock Daft Punk as your DJ if you so chose. I wish there were more EDM songs, but when you see the set list, you’ll see why there are not. These songs appeal to a great variety group of people… accept for people who only like country (I’m sure they’ll come out with a Hoe Down Hero soon, so don’t you worry). There 102 tracks mashed-up to make 93 new songs. Can you imagine? Beastie Boys with Blondie? 50 Cent with David Bowie? Eric Prydz with Tears For Fears? Those in-house Dj’s had a lot of fun with this game and I’m glad that they brought that back–fun that is. I think some of us forgot about the fun aspect of music.
The record/controller feels just like the real thing. Of course there are the colored dots the on screen that match with the colors on the pseudo record. And don’t forget the mixer! Yes it does exactly what a real mixer does–but with less channels and fewer buttons. Put the mixer to the left, it plays record A, to the right, it plays record B, in the middle it plays both A and B–Aces! During your DJ sets, you’ll get the infamous highlighted notes, much like the other games. Hit/scratch all the notes correctly, and you receive “Euphoria”(I know what you’re thinking, total drug reference, no?). This doubles your score, and puts your crossfader into auto-pilot. (Hey, I think Tiësto has that same thing!)
All in all, I’m pretty excited about this game. It shines a little more light on our scene by connecting it with other genres and other scenes. Songs you already have on your all EDM iPod: Eric Prydz – Pjanoo, Paul Van Dyk – Nothing But You, Fedde Le Grande – Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, Tiësto – Elements of Life, and Benny Benassi – Satisfaction, just to name a few! Go out and try your skills here.
Alright, so the fine people at DJ Hero have given GenXGlow.com a $25 Gift Certificate for your favorite Game Stop store. We are ready to give this gift card to anyone who does the following:
