Default A rave is a rave - 11-04-08, 10:34 PM

It kinda bothers me that some promoters don't want to call raves raves. I always thought that raving was more of a culture, a genre of people. It has something special for everyone.

Some people goto bars, some go clubbing, some go rave.

Anyone else feel me?

Not really. I still rave I just don't call it that. A lot of us have grown out of that mentality that just because it has electronic music you have to call it a rave!?! No. It's a party. You can call it a rave, party or even a show depending if there's a live PA or act. Unless i'm having to explain something to someone not familiar with the scene then I use the term rave more frequently so they get an idea of what i'm refering to. beyond that do you call ravers kandi kids or vice versa!? Because technically they are different yet go to the same raves!? So why are kandi kids called kandi kids and not ravers!? Because there's a difference in them. Once you figure out these little differences you'll understand why some promoters moved beyond calling their events raves. I'll throw one out there for ya though as stating they are more circulated and maintained as mainstream in the community.
Just my 2 cents

Appreciate the view.

I used to live in Phoenix, and we had all sorts different gigs going on, illegal, legal, live pa, etc... But everyone called the events raves. Parties were private and at houses. And the rave scene we have is probably the most mainstream in the US (Kandieland IV had 1700+ people and was totally legal/professional) But they were still raves?

I guess its a regional thing.

(Kandi kids are ravers too!)

Anytime! It could very well be a regional issue. Because you have some states that are prominently governed by religious backing in which most of their laws are backed by their moral standard of living. So calling a party a rave is just asking them to have the cops try and shut it down in some of these areas. When it's just easier to also step up the class of social ladder and get very nice venues and throw parties more towards a clientelle that spends money on liquor in which the venue makes more money off the promoter throwing the events there and builds a very good partnership maintaining a status in a city without fear of being shut down by cops looking for any excuse. That could have sumfin to do with what you're talking about.

(however ravers are not kandi kids)

alot of it has to do with the stigma of the rave scene as well,
to a club owner, when the term rave pops up the first thing they think of is, illegal, underage persons, and drug use.
therefore alot of promoters will not call there parties raves for the sake renting out a club for the night.
also just because a rave is held in a club doesnt mean that party wont get raided, and calling it a rave is a red light to law enforcement

i feel ya on that, i personally have even started to distance myself from saying rave now. Ill usually just say party now cause the word "rave" always sends up red flares and stuff. And as for all edm events being called raves now, to me a rave is something underground like it was when it 1st started out. All these massives like EDC, TAO, monster massive etc. i would call EDM events not "raves"

PLUR HTID..........those arent just meaningless phrases theyre a way of life
