I try and be responsible as possible when it comes to my diabetes. I love to dance and i take ills so it can be difficult sometimes. The last thing you want to do when your rolling is prick your finger or take a shot. But I do test throughout the night to make sure I am doing fine, and go back to partying. I am a type 1 diabetic and was hoping to hear how other diabetics deal with their disease at a rave. Even if you have a friend thats a diabetic, tell me your stories.
i dont know anyone with diabetes but i do believe that what your doing is responsible enough to have my respect i do know of kids that went to raves with diabetes and didnt come back, it's sad to see how much ppl dont care for their own lives to go and have fun and not be responsible about it.
mad props to ya ma friend keep it good.
I want to be able to keep experiencing all the fun that I have at raves. In order to do that I need to take care of myself. I am probably not the best diabetic in the world but I do what I can. The more I think about it the more I realize that my entrance to this culture has led to a healthier lifestyle for myself. And people say raves are bad, pffff!
I have a very good friend from grad school who is a type 1 diabetic and has been since she was six. The things that she has found that help her control her disease well are: eating meals on a schedule, even if it means taking a break in the middle of something to have a snack, staying well hydrated (she tends to get high blood sugar when she isn't), and testing her sugar regularly...all of which it sounds like you're doing already.
She has also had really phenominal success with her insulin pump, which she got about 2 years ago. The pump elimintaed the spikes of insulin she was getting from the shots and has made it easier for her to maintain a lower healthy blood sugar level. If you want to talk to her send me a PM and I'll put you in touch.
i know that its probably not a good combo to be raving with my diabetes but when i was diagnosed i told myself i wasnt going to let it control my life. i figure as long as i am being responsible about it, no harm will come to me. All my friends know what to do and know how to recognize if im not doing well. I like the community way too much to quit.
I think that you have a pretty great attitude about the whole thing...responsibility is key! Do you carry a medic alert card/bracelet/necklace? I have a severe allergy and I carry one to be on the safe side, so that if I just drop no one has to guess about what might be the reason...
Sorry to hear about the diabetes, I don't know much about it other than insulin and having to watch your blood sugar though. The only person I know with diabetes is my Grandmother, and I don't think she raves.
However, I have to agree with DeS3R... mad props on keeping your head straight. Getting fucked up is one thing, but doing it when you shouldn't or where you shouldn't is a bad idea.
