"Tourist Ravers"? -
12-05-08, 05:10 AM
So im at a buddy place talking about our next event (TAO)
when one of his other friends, who has been going to raves for a couple years, jokingly(kinda) calls us tourists. Claiming were just part of, I guess, a large amount of people that have been flocking to rave events lately.
Im new to raves so Im not sure if there has been a rise in the number of people at events. According to him most events are being over run by people that arent real ravers, just people following the trends...
Can anyone else testify to this?
Has there been a noticeable rise in the amount of people going to events?

If your talking about the LA massives, then word has been that attendance has been up significantly this year compared to the past couple years.
And I'm fine with 'tourist' ravers. Everyone is welcome.

Exactly. Even if they are just doing it because its the hip thing to do, there is no reason to discriminate against them. The fad will pass and they'll leave the scene soon enough leaving behind the true ravers. Who knows, some of them might even be potential converts.
Be my friend! You won't regret it (too much)

I can't see how getting more people at raves is a bad thing. Raves exist to bring people together. More people together is more of a good thing, yes? Even if some of them are fake, some of them are legit. I would never have started raving if I didn't do it because my friends were (Elements 08!!! Can't wait for 09!), and then I'd still be spending my weekends in shitty bars listening to shitty punk bands (<3).

Well, in any scene, there are always lots of new faces. The longer you are in the scene, the more people you know and then you start to notice the people you DON'T know. It's not bad though....these are just people who either are new to the scene or it's a small part of their realities. Either way, they are welcomed into our scene with open arms.
And in response to the so-called 'tourists' not being real ravers....it's pretty hard to defend this either way. It could easily be argued that plenty of people who have been in the scene for a while do not live by raver ideals (PLUR, etc) so are they ravers? And the same goes for the new people: maybe they are ravers at heart already. There's a thread somewhere about what makes a person a raver and the results are subjective and stereotypical at best. The one thing that IS sure is that they're all people that take part in our community, and therefore, should be given equal treatment, regardless.

I'm new to the scene my self, a few months ago. A song came on the raido and it tingled my soul deep DEEP DEEP down there. At first wikipedia our scene, learn of PLUR, did't really understand it truthfully though. I went on a hunt for mor songs tha sounded like the oeon the radio, and me as a person chnged as I listened to countless tracks. the preachin of raver ideals found in tose tracks, it gave me hope and let me see things I didn't understand before. Even now, I stil might be a little ignorant, andnaive, espically since I'm new. Instead of keeping a watchful eye on the yougin, adopt them, carry hthm nder your wing if you can, teach the the meaning of freedom. Its very important that new people larn about our scene BEFORE they do drugs cause soon as they do it and they have no understanding, and such. They'll abuse ou acceptance and come to safely indulgein their substance, thinking, this is what ravig is about. All those ass holes some of you speak of, their mind was posioned.
