this is kinda a spinn off (hehehehe i love cheap puns) gripe. in new orleans there is club ampersand and that is where all the best dj's on tour goto here. deiselboy dj icey dj monk dj trashy is a resident dj, the list goes on and on goerge acosta is coming there soon or was just there not sure have to find the flyer. but this is my beef as bubbles and probably wafflemop can atest to. the venue is amazing BUT the crowd fucking sucks donkey balls. when i saw dj icey there i was getting down busting what lil dance moves i know all the ho's were looking at me like i was retarded because i was raving out and they wanted to hiphop booty dance. major bitch 2 no wait infact number one is that this is a NONGLOWSTICK CLUB i can understand no stringing no room but no stick whatso ever. that is so lame its.........worse than the extremly short lived zelda cartoon. all the dude who saw me freehanding with ciggerettes asked me if i could get them e. gripe number 3 retarded drink prices 4 dollars a beer. fair enough i have paid much higher at concerts and sports events,4 dollar bottles of water..... what rip someones jaw out god damn. i think like 7 or 8 bone red bull come on now thats insane. is it like this everywhere. the best edm clubs are holes in the wall that get no big name dj's but have an amazing chill crowd or club ampersand and all the evil that it is

No glowsticks?!?! NO GOOD COMMUNITY!?!? Man, that really pisses me off, and I'm a thousand miles away. Heres hoping they screw their heads on right at some point.

Ampersand def sucks. I miss the State Palace. The NOLA rave scene pretty much died when the Palace Closed. When did they go to no glowsticks? At Zoolu they allowed them. Well sorta...only outside in that back area. There is def a bad vibe in Ampersand. Ravers get looked at funny and hated on bc of the way we dress and dance. Geeze I think some of them need to go look in the mirror and wash some of that gell outta their hair. You could prolly break skin if you bumped into their hair lol.
Its not SO much like that in Shreveport. We have 2 good venues that the big DJs come to. Only problem is getting a crowd at these places. Its usually the same crowd at all the shows. Dont get me wrong ab the small crowd bc most of those people are my friends. It would just be nice to see a big turn out so more shows would happen around here. Both of the venues are nice and big, perfect for raves. Oh and also a BIG thing I like ab the venues here is that they let us bring in our glowsticks. There are a few of us that string and go to almost all the shows SpinnableDreams NOLA is only 5 hours away from Shreveport if you ever feel like making a trip we have some good DJs come through every now and then.

Well I've only been to one venue, and it was pretty sweet. It was $4 a bottle of water, but they didn't search you when you came in (or even check your bag!) so we just got our own water and brought it in. There were thousands of glowsticks, a couple dozen stringers and everyone danced their faces off like a raver should. All in all, it was awesome.
I feel bad that you have to deal with all that shit because not having to is awesome!

Yeah, the main problem with the place is the first word in the name.....CLUB. These places are usually like this from my experience. Superuber packed with lame teeny-boppers/hip-hopers who don't really enjoy the music and just cause drama, no room to glowstick (and apparently not allowed in that one....sux). They're just trying to be a 'high class' establishment which equates to them being LAME and ruining the vibe of awesome parties that could have been. It's my experience that the best parties are either outside or in some huge run-down warehouse somewhere with 20 foot ceilings that you have to call the number on the flyer the day of the event to even know where to go. We don't really get many big names to come around these parts, but we do have some great local talent and some mediochre DJ's come out. Our parties are usually smaller, but great vibes and a good sense of family....and that's the way I like it!
I went to Minneapolis to see Gabriel and Dresden and Mark Farina with some friends and was seriously disappointed....clubs were packed, couldn't string, everything was overpriced and the vibe was all off. It was a waste of money if you ask me.

well i found an mind blowingly chill club in nola a lil hole in the wall called The Dragons Den they have events twice a month chill crowd cool ass club owner/dj spining great drums and bass even started playing dub step lately drums and bass for poi ppl and they let me and anyone i bring in for free because of my fire performances so its cool just no chance of seeing daft punk or anything like that there but still bad ass local dj's i will take that over ampersand anyday just wished i had time off to go to a rave grrrr

hey spinnable, next time i come down to NO, which will be pretty soon, ill have to join you at the Den, especially if i can get in free. Ive never been there, but ive heard about it. They actually let you spin fire there? If thats the case imma be damn sure to bring my poi and definatly a set of glowstrings. Ive been waiting to be able to spin in a club. Yea lol when i went to ampersand when Oakenfold was there, my friend tried to bring some sticks in to freestyle with, but was turned down. Haha i just stuck with my trusty ol leds. Fun for me, not for him. I think just cause oakenfold was there that night, the overall vibe was very nice. There were plenty of ravers doin there thing with the led cubes they give out with the drinks. Half the people in there were on some sort of speed, mostly e. I was pretty far gone myself, but some of the peeps in there were way more fucked up. It was kinda funny to me cause ive been there so I knew what they were feelin. But i think with any other dj, the people in there and the vibe they give off would just be weird. Ampersand is definatly full of themselves. Such a small club too.

Unfortunately, this is where the whole LIVE portion of the scene is moving towards. Now that I am more connected than ever with promoters, there is a whole shift towards bigger names, "nicer" clubs, and over priced everything. Basically, it is being treated as a business - rather than as a scene about music. The only way to slow or shift this movement is to prove that the "rave" scene is profitable by showing up in large numbers. To the club owners and promoters, they dont give a fuck - as long as they are making money...
Or we could just say fuck it, and throw our own parties. I can tell you this, that GenXGlow.com will be looking into this in the near future.
