been slacking a bit actually.. well, not entirely by choice.. i don't always have a place to set up in each city so its a bit here and a bit there.. haven't been able to dedicate time like i'd like 2.. le sigh.. i'm good with flow (ie this track goes into this one and builds nicely into this other one) but the beatmatching still isn't up 2 speed..

How exactly do you dj's get the beats matched up when your live? I've had the previlege to watch a few dj's (waldo, TK, and others) and I still can't quite figure it out.

yea, me neither lol!! ok, i've not played out so i'm not the expert here, but this is y u see djs w/ one ear on the headphones all the time..

first off, u need really good headphones so u can hear over the whole system.. and then basically, while 1 record is spinnin u cue up the other record so that it can only be heard in the headphones.. then ya gotta listen to the 2nd record w/ 1 ear on the headphones, and the 1st record w/ the other ear thru the monitors (or the whole system if u dont have monitors.. many mixers will also do a split cue so u can listen 2 both records in different ears in the headphones if u need 2).. then ya line up record 2 to record 1, beats and phrases, and ur off 2 the races..

that is easier said then done cuz u have 2 teach urself 2 listen to 2 records at the same time and b able 2 differentiate them.. there r of course those who pick it right up but 4 most of us it takes loads of practice..

ok both of you really need to watch the youtube tutorials i posted the link on the first page of this thread, go to the that guys page,,, and watch every video... he has a lot, i mean over 1000..... and you will see and listen as he explains the technical stuff...

http://www.youtube.com/user/ellaskins now watch the videos. first off starting with basic beatmatching or beatmixing. and then watch all the others.... hes so simple and yet to the point. better than i can explain.

headphones dont have to be loud in fact you will go deaf if you are too loud, turn the monitors down...
i use one monitor, and one ear on the headphones.

on the forst link,,, he has a search tab, and type whatever,, say you want to know about djm800,,, or hte cdj400 or denons cdjs, or anything there are over 1000 videos. this guy is great.

yea yea.. i know it doesn't need 2 b loud.. good headphones = it doesn't have 2 be loud, just isolate what ur hearing.. that's what i was trying 2 get across.. i need 2 practice sooo bad but once again i can't set up.. grrrr..
