If I were interested in learning how to mix and ultimately partake in playing in front of a crowd, where do I get started? Is this something self taught, or does another DJ take you under their wing? How does this work?

Look around (probably online) for a DVD called "Intellect". It is the best thing anybody could ever watch to learn how to DJ.

Now while it is possible to do this completely alone, I find it to be an easier and more enjoyable experience to have someone mentor you into it.

Getting started as a Dj is tough, mainly because it so expensive. Easiest way to start would probably meet people at your school or work who Dj, or have turntables, and try em out first, then, if u enjoy it, and u want to start doing gigs, find a group of guys to do it with at first, its easier, less strenuous, cheaper, and alot of fun.

how is it coming? have you got with a friend or tutor? intellect is a great dvd to watch and learn from, there are a couple others as well.
