I'm not positive, but I think that GXG News is working on a whole series of interviews with our resident djs...so if you feel like being interviewed in more depth you should try getting in touch with them!

1. How long have you been Djing and what got you interested in it?
I’ve been DJing since Dec. of 96 and have been a professional DJ since 98. It was my main source of income while I was in school. I got to travel all over the east coast during the late 90’s playing at clubs and venues.
I remember the first time I heard a DJ and really understood what it is that they did. It was circa 86 and my cousin and I went to the Record Bar. He was looking at these new disc things and was amazed the all the music was in this little disc. My cousin walks to the record section and starts thumbing through the vinyl. He pulls out RUN DMC’s Raising Hell, Beastie Boys Licenses to ill, and the Fat Boys Crushin. Then told me, “This is where it’s at.” I was just a good ol’ country boy and he was from Kannapolis. “What I thought to be a big city.” So we get home and crank up our grandmothers old 60’s stereo cabinet record player. The first record he plays is the B side to Raising Hell and starts with Peter Piper. I had never heard of Rap, Hip Hop, or anything at this time. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as MTV. It had me amazed with the mixture of nursery rhyme and funky ass beat. It had me spinning on my head for hours or at least trying to.
Growing up, I always wanted to be the fourth Beastie Boy and start a band like the Beastie Boys. It wasn’t until ten years later that it actually started to take shape. I had saved up $2000 enough money for a down payment on a new car. I was unable to get a loan being so young. So I went out and bought some turntables. I had just turned 18 and was into going to clubs. So I had these turntables without a clue what to do with them. It took me about 6 months before I knew what I was doing and another 6 months before I played out. I started playing house parties. My first big club event was after a drag show at Scorpios in Charlotte. Lol Good times!!!!
2. How did you come up with your DJ name? I have had a lot of different DJ names over the years. My first DJ name was my nickname growing up Meatball. Then I changed it to Pimp P after a bad joke went really wrong. There was a promoter in town that threw a party called, “pimpin ain’t easy.” I made a mix CD called, “who says pimpin ain’t easy” under the name Pimp P and was selling it at the party. It was an unlicensed CD so I didn’t want my name on it but it was a really good mix and I ended selling over 2500 copies. Don’t tell anyone!
Partiology it’s a word, a study, a science… I came up with it in college. It’s the study of social behavior as it relates to festive celebration. It has always been my approach to life. Have fun and learn from it. Which brings me to my next name The Partiologist but people said it had too many syllables. When I graduated I had an internship with HOT92.7fm and eventually I was on-air 2-6am Saturday and Sunday mornings. As DJ Prueph and first it was Proof but there was an MC Proof and I didn’t want them to get confused. So I spelled it Prooff and one of my hindu friends told me if I’d spell it prueph. It translates into inter-light in “hindi.” So I went with it. Plus you don’t have to worry about anyone else with the same spelling.
3. What type of tracks are you playing? A little bit of everything but mostly Breaks. Lately I’ve been playing Far Too Loud, Deekline, Wizard, The Breakfastaz, and a lot of UK Breaks but it kind of depends on what kind of event it is.
4. Do you have a favorite big name DJ? Norman Cook he’s my all time fav but I like a lot of DJs Qbert, Craze, Mix Master Mike, Cut Chemist, and then all my friends that are DJs.
5. Where and how often do you spin? I host an internet radio show every Sunday from 7-11pm EST. Direct Link: http://www.awcast.com/view?1pb=jsa6km Where we have 4 different DJs each week and I host the show. Every Monday I have a local EDM weekly at Palmetto Pub with all the local DJs from Charleston. I play big events around once month.

1. How long have you been Djing and what got you interested in it?
i started spinning in 99. the single thing that made me want to DJ was going to Dieselboy's "Soldier's Story" cd release party in johnson city tenessee. the first day i had ever heard dnb, the first cd i ever heard was that cd the day it came out. we drove 8 hours that night to see him play and he destroyed my notions of what good music was. since then i have been posessed, 9 years now and i still mix nearly every day. some people's influences were gradual but mine was a single slap in the face.
2. How did you come up with your name?
i started djing by learning to scratch so i could get used to the feel of the vinyl. a dj who scratches = "turntablist" so i took the last part, "ablist" which also means i am able to follow my dreams, and being able is one step behind actually doing what you want. i added "one" because we are ALL ablists, we are all able to make beautiful music but i am the first of many who will be infected by my sound. i am the ablist one, you are ablist two, etc.
3. What type of tracks are you playing?
i call my style "beautiful destruction". sweet, sad, beautiful strings/melodies mixed with techy, crunchy bass and snappy, crisp drums.
4. Do you have a favorite big name DJ?
DSL will always be tops, but i also really love Stu C4C, Odi, Dara, Hive, Bailey & Friction. production is another story but those are my dj's. oh and Reid Speed, i love her!!
5. Where and how often do you spin?
most often in greenville sc; in the past i have played in myrtle beach, rock hill, charlotte, anderson, clemson, spartanburg, columbia, various other cities. these days i play wherever SMOOTH PRODUCTIONZ is throwing one of their awesome parties! *label wink* last place i played was last week at DNF/Far Too Loud, @ Escape in greenville.

1. How long have you been Djing and what got you interested in it?
I have been djing for 6 years. At the time the detroit scene was dying. Parties were few. So instead of listening to the same cds over and over again I decided to start to learn djing to get myself more involved in the scene from a different aspect.
2. How did you come up with your name?
Sylus is was created up from the word Stylus. Stylus is part of the cartridge as well as the little pen that is used for blackberrys and DS's. Though I was going for something a little more professional and it had to flow in a sentence.
3. What type of tracks are you playing?
Mostly forms of Hardcore. Though I also play gritty hard techno every so often.
4. Do you have a favorite big name DJ?
I don't have just 1 favorite. There is a whole list
5. Where and how often do you spin?
I usually spin at raves or underground events cause the clubs wont be able to handle the hardcore sound. As for how often, I would say not as much as I would like. Michigan doesnt have a good enough scene expectionally for hardcore. So I try to get as many out of state gig as I can
