By the way...how's things goin for ya Ablist? We gonna have to get up and kick it some time dogg...i really enjoy hangin and miXin with ya at the club from time to time...you're as genuine of a dude in person as on here!
hahaha. just for the record, i aint sayin u shouldnt use serato. its a great idea, everybody has their own tools. i would dance to someone pissing on a cardboard box if it sounded good. but everybody should have to "intern" on vinyl for like 6 months before moving on to other stuff, because everything else (cd's, laptop) was built from how vinyl works. i barely use vinyl anymore but i'll still rock the house down with vinyl or cd's or whatever. as long as i can change songs and have the next one cued up in less than 10 seconds, i can still dj like i want to. that was a hard switch to cd's for me because i can switch records and be mixing in like 7 or 8 seconds on vinyl, and the way i mix i have to be able to switch up FAST.

Personally, I much prefer vinyl with Serato. CDJ's are ok and I recommend being familiar with them. Serato has been a little funky when I've used it with CD players, mainly the visual display when queuing a track. As for your original question, I recommend learning to do it without the visual display, but it doesn't hurt to have it as a backup until you get proficient. I solely use Serato now just for the simplicity of carrying all my music around. It's very common to have it already in place at the events I've played.

I'll tell ya what was really kinda cool....me and Ncturnal actually did a tag set fri nite at a gig we both were playin at. Even with 2 different styles of music, and us never having met before, and also us not actually planning to tag...I'll tell ya...It made it HELLLLLLLLLA easy to blend 2 styles of music when both DJ's are able to use serato, and it's kinda weird how versitile Serato is. Example...me and ncturnal use serato SOOOOOO differently...There are 3 different "Modes" to use serato on. I'm very falmiliar with absolute and Res mode, however this dude straight took both records OFF THE DECKS and was mixing DIGITALLY using serato....i was shocked...he gotta teach me that one!!!
