thank guys i was wondering if i should go vinyl or cdj first

if you are just starting, it will be much cheaper to get cdj's but at some point you NEED to get some turntables or practice on a friends.

you never know when you might show up to play a party and they have nothing but turntables; if you dont have vinyl or skills with you, you're screwed. people will respect you more as a dj if you are good at all forms of djing. i've seen guys get laughed at for only being able to use a laptop or whatever.

the thing with cdjs..... I HATE CD's. I bought the first ipod that came out.... And haven't owned a cd since! scratches FUCK cds. Im rough on them too. I tend to take care of vinyl, plus ALL your friends will want your cds.... oo oo let me copy this borrow that. EVERYONE HAS A CD PLAYER. tables aren't as common. you feel me? I have been on the numarks for almost a month and really enjoy it! once again

but i guess i DO need to practice on some cdjs at some point, but for me, it;s more of an expensive hobby than a "one day profession". I want to and already DO play for house parties(right now just my house LOL) but as a good friend once told me, they are CRACK TABLES. Once you start, you can't just put it down. And I feel that 200%. I dislike drum & bass and house, but that is what my friend Jenny, who let me borrow her setup has. I'm VERY GRACIOUS to even have that opportunity to learn on someone elses ON MY OWN TIME!!!!! I can go to my spare bedroom anytime and mix it up. for free. I can't really ask for more.

you can also get the pioneer cdj-400 which plays cds and/or USB FLASH DRIVES. yeh, you heard me. you can stick a jump-drive (thumb drive, flash drive, memory stick, whatever you call it) in each deck and spin off those instead of cds, its badass. plus they can get up to 8gb a piece, which is like 400 full quality mp3 songs, and you wouldnt have to take them out, just skip through your whole possible set and spin spin spin. brian (Stylez), head of smooth productionz, uses two of these and we played around with them in his studio the first night he got em; theyre badass.

oh plus the reason i like cds is because say someone steals your bag, or spills beer on it, or you lose it, or whatever, you dont lose any of your music. if you keep all your songs on your computer and just burn cds of what you want to spin, you will never lose your shit at a club again or have it stolen. i cant tell you how many djc had their bag stolen or drinks spilled on them and they lost 100's of dollars rebuilding their collection. nowadays, if someone steals my shit ill be mad, but i will have a new collection burned the next day and the most it will cost is maybe 15 bucks for blank cds and maybe 20 bucks for a new case. you never know what will happen; plus a lot of the vinyl i have is worth anywhere from 10-150 bucks per plate; if they get warped or scratched or stolen or cracked or stepped on or they skip, im screwed so with cdj tables, i can just record high-quality mp3's of all my rare shit and leave it safe at home where it belongs.
