Lol Barbaren, what you have to understand is that freehand is your OWN style. Glowstringing has moves already created (although new ones/manipulations can me made), while freehand requires you to think by yourself of different tosses, catches, and moving with the beat and your body. Experiment!

When I used to try and freehand, all I would do is like random stomach traces, and fountains, or at least what they would look like if I was glowstringing. I thought of making a style like that but thought it was kind of futile, so I just focused more on glowstringing.

To be honest though, you can throw stringing moves in there with your hands, as long as it's not all you do. I've filmed myself freehanding (really free... not precise or anything like that) and found that some of the stuff I do looks really good, and there are stringing moves there.

Freehand is also a lot harder to practice than stringing, but the results show. You can be so much more creative and unique, but it takes less technical knowledge and more on-the-spot movement. I think that's why I like stringing - the technical aspect.

An anology that works well here... Leme think of one.

Stringing is a science, Freehanding is an art?

Yeah, That kinda shows the difference well, To me, stringing is a technical thing, Get string one to string two, Pull them, Take them apart before they tangle and get into wraps.

Freehanding seems to be more or less... How should I put it? Free?(lol, I R poet) With less emphasis on how the lights look, But how the lights look around your body and how you use your body to move the sticks.

My feelin is that well, both on strings and freehand is art. I've actually been encorporating a lot more freehand with my performing. Hmm, I don't know, there's certain parts of songs that cry out for some free hand (mostly the more ambient, subtle parts) and I unleash at other times. It depends on the music. I gotta say man, the best thing to do is to just relax, and groove with what you're doin. Totally get into the music and let it move your body. Pretty much let it put you into a trance. You'll see that you'll start doing things out of nowhere that you didn't think you could.

one of the things its alot harder to do as a stringer is have a unique style, mainly due to the fact that there are "right" and "wrong" ways to do moves, whereas freehand there is no right or wrong way, just the way YOU do it. My btb catch to arm-trace to heli might have the same "moves" in it as your but you can be damn sure they arent gonna be done the same way.
