Default Freehand Transition Help - 10-27-07, 05:42 PM

Alright guys so I've been seriously sticking for about a week now (most amazing thing ever by the way.) and I've come to a bit of a stopping point

It seems my style is getting repetitive. No one's telling me that, but I'm feeling it. Every trace or throw I make is compulsively transitioned into a figure 8, which I like but I'd really like to know more transitions.

Here's my moveset:

Butterfly
Fig. 8
Helicopter
Heli Toss
Tracing (I can trace mostly everything, but I'm still not used to leg tracing)
Threading
Quick Releases/Catches

I know it's not about technical knowledge, but I really want to expand all the things I know to incorporate them into my dancing.

Help would be appreciated

Post some videos.
:]

Freehanding is usually interesting to watch, though I don't think I'm ever going to do it..
I like stringing better :]]

I would just try to think ahead about what you're going to do next. You can also force yourself to concentrate on another area of your body, i.e. tracing your legs or something. I used to have the same habit and still somewhat do, but these tips helped me so they might work for you too.

I don't know much about freehanding or I'd try to help ya :P
I just mimic what I do with strings, and it looks tight usually ^^

I had that exact problem, always going back to the figure 8 and being really repetitive with my moves. what helped me out, and hopefully it'll help you too, is instead of thinking about what moves to do just clear your mind and let your hands move, don't think about any moves at all, just be the music and let the sticks flow to the beats. i hope that helps you out even if just a little bit.

freehand is ... free, do what you want, its not like strings when its combos and moves, go with the flow. if anything practice certain things just to be able to do it all better, this is more a dance form then a performance like juggling.

its really about what YOU feel comfortable with, if youre repetive in your motions, then try something you havent done before, Im more intune with my style than anything else, if I feel im being repitive, I usually slow it down, lean back, do some hand over hand spins, rotate back to standing streight, and do afew traces, and just go back to the music, I alo slow and lean if the music hitsa slow section. Also remember, its not ONLY about the hands, itsa dance, so move your body too!

Amen to that, the point being.... free hand is a dance.

but the best part is aerials, try some different tosses and stalls, use some of those hackysack skillz.
