Default 5 beat weave -> WOOT - 07-16-08, 11:27 AM

So i picked up the socks last night and messed around after watching Alex's TUT, really couldn't get the hang of it. I thought I had it a couple times, but no dice. I kept trying to get into it from the regular 3 beat pattern & started thinking there's no way I'd swing it.

This AM I checked HOP's tut for a different view and noticed they state to let it go 4 beats on one side, then into 5 beats on the other and just chase it...nailed it on the second try. It's still kind of sloppy, but I definately have the 5 beat each side. Now to mess with reverse and the different planes.

Alex, the only thing you need to make that TUT perfect, is to state to let it ride to 4 beats and then pull to other side and then go for the 5th beat...honestly, that's all it took for it to click, w/me anyway.

If only the basic 3 beat BTB would come that EZ...I hate that damn move.

Yeah, when attempting 5 beat weaves, I suggest learning the 4 beat weave first (extra 5 beat-type rotation/wrist twist thing on one side only then after unwinding on the other side, just 3 beat-type hand motions to get back). Once you learn the wrist-twist on one side, the other will come along shortly. I'd work with forward a lot before moving on to other 5 beats....get really good at one. I thought I was doing it right for quite a while, but I wasn't twisting my wrists enough and it was just kinda doing a thru-wrap on my wrists. When I really learned it the right way, I was like WOAH....So just mess around with it for a while. Being good at it will help in learning the others.

Sorry for making you move my post again...

I completely get what ur saying on the thru wrap, it happened a few times and then it just clicked. Feels smooth when done right.

I'm mixing practicing forwards with transitioning into the reverse, since the hands will already be in position. I understand what's supposed to happen, just can't physically do it yet.

I can't practice one thing at a time for too long, brain lock occurs. On the other hand, I can work different moves and leave one thing alone, then the one I left alone just falls. It's like learning something new opens up new motor skills that were holding me back on the other one...either way, 5 beats are

Thanks BRJ

Got a sloppy 4 beat reverse...getting close. Once that smooths out a little, I'll try to add the 5th bt.

Forwards 5 beat is tightening up, only screw it up when I get ahead of myself...

Just tried BTB 3 bt, can't even do a simple 2bt chase for more than 2 trips...I need to focus on that damn move...

LOL.....sloppy 4 beat....damn ur quick!!!(sorry, my mind lives in the gutter)

Yeah, BTB weaves take a while to learn....no harm in starting now. It took me 3 months to master the reverse 3 BW....but much shorter for the forward and variations after that, so that's good.....just a really really steep learning curve for the initial 2 beat and 3 beat BTB weave.

lol- U BASTARD! You can actually call it 8 beats since it was left then right, so there!

I pulled off the 5 beat reverse last night and just pulled it off now. It's still rough, but I definitely have it. Now I just have to cycle through those two and get them second nature.

I might have to suck it up and go for the BTB weaves now
