I'm on my fifth week of glowstringing practice, and I've already managed to find a lot of differences between poi and stringing, since, whenever I want to learn a new trick or just fool around, I pull out a pair of uber-crude sock poi. Well, let me rephrase that: I've found a single difference, but it is so all-encompassing that it creates a hella ton of other differences, if that makes any sense.
Glowsticks are too light; almost annoyingly so. In fact, it's gotten to the point that it's easier to use my sock poi - not just because they're soft and don't hurt nearly as much, but because you get a hella ton more control. It seems like poi simply win out in every case; what to do?
How do you guys deal with the annoying lightness of your glowsticks? I'd assume that long-term LED sticks (like Flowlights, especially considering the additional pieces you can buy (/sigh) and put on for added weight) make a bit of a difference, but I don't want to spend the money for the set just yet. Any thoughts?
You know? I have to agree with the whole weight thing. Poi is so much easier than glowsticks. Personally I havn't done anything for the weight problem, but I've wanted to for a while now.
i like the weight too.. i practice with 2 stricks per string for muscle conditioning and find i can swing slower with more control, altho more tangles when they hit.. helps train the muscles to do the moves correctly and then it's easier to spin w/ lighter stuff.. idk, seems 2 b working 4 me tho..

hey, hey, it’s a beautiful day
it’ll be ok. it’ll be ok.

I agree with what Muryllis is saying i have found that while practicing with sticks i like to get like 5 nickels and tape them to the bottom of the stick, it give just that extra weight to learn new things and slow some down.
I've noticed the weight difference too, and get annoyed by it. I'd been glow stringing for 2 months when I got some led ball poi. The poi itself is amazing, and whatnot... but after using it and going back to glowsticks I noticed how much of a pain in the ass it was because they're so damn light... but I'm used to it now! =)
i dont mind how light the sticks are, it doesnt bug me at all
i do notice it when i go from a heavier weight to a lighter weight but i find myself doing alot better with the light weights
The only time I really feel the weight difference affecting my performance is with isolations and stalls. Heavier is easier when it comes to those I think.
That's probably what my main concern is - I'm still learning isolations (doing the stirring motion practice thing from Nick's tutorial), and it's pretty much impossible with glowsticks. I'm gonna go with the nickel idea - I made two gorilla-glued stacks of five nickels just for that purpose ^.^
As for other things, whenever I go from sock poi to glowstrings, it usually just takes me a few minutes of weaving to re-adjust to the weight difference. Meh
