Just curious as to what most ppl do...freestyle with sticks or strings or what?
I enjoy both, however having some martial arts practice under my belt i'm beginning to enjoy strings better. Seeing as i've practiced with chucks, 3 section staff, staff, swords, chains and rope just seems up my alley..

I <3 my poi big time. I keep talking about learning to freehand, and not doing it...I think I need someone around to practice with/on.

I definitely prefer strings. I'm no good at freehand....well, I can occasionally pull things off that I feel are adequate, but I have to be in the right flow. I'm a huge fan of swinging things cause you get better circles and patterns. Plus it FEELS AWESOME!
Feel the beat from start to stop, dancin' and groovin' from bottom to top!

I'll tell you this right now, I can't decide. Captain Planet asks me this ALL the time and I always tell him I'm torn. Here is why I like both (I'm talking about Glowstringing and Poi):
GlowStringing: Now I just can't get enough orbitals or wraps. If you ever spin with me outside me making a video, you'd know I throw orbitals every 30 seconds (at least) when I have my glowsticks in my hands. Unless I'm working on something, I just have to do one every change I get. They're just SO much fun and they're my favorite move.
I also can't get enough of the crazy wrap combos. I love all the posibilities. Now, I know I'm not the best wrapper on the site but if you compare me to what I used to be able to do, I'd like to think I've gotten WAY better at putting together combos. Then again, if you compare what I'm doing to Alex, you can see he takes it to the next level each time. Theres always something more you can add to a wrap combo; the only example I can think of would be in Alex's new video. I can do some of the stuff he does, but when he's doing some of his leg wraps, he throws in these small quick bicep/elbow wraps that I can't do while doing all these other things.
Thats the element of it that I can't get enough of... theres just no end to how crazy of a wrap combo you can do. Oh, and I also love watching string manips... I can't really do any or think of any, but they blow my mind =)
Poi: It's the flow. I can't describe it, but I have a different feeling inside my head when I'm doing Poi and it has to do with the flow. I like the change in speed from Glowstringing and I like how you can do endless transitions, especially at slower speeds, and it just looks like you'll never stop going.
I'm not the best at poi perfomances, but I'm working on it right now, and my next video will be a poi video! =O However, watching people who do nothing but poi, you can see that theres a different style to it (duh?). Theres all these random abstrace circles and isolations and pendulum effects thrown in by all the really good ones. To me, it's something that I think you can only do if you really let yourself go. Yes, theres some practicing to that, like learning how to do antispin flowers in every direction so that you can spin while doing them... but theres also a different element to it almost.
It doesn't happen to me often, but it feels that when you truly let yourself go, you can do stuff you didn't think you could and make insane amounts of beauty out of something so simple. As jared said in "what do you like about glowstringing" (or whatever that random LOL video was called), it's a set of circles, but it's what you can do with the circles that makes it amazing. It's freedom.
I also like how fabric poi has a different element to it, because unlike glowstringing, you're seeing the whole poi, and not just what the ends are doing.
See, I'm torn!
