Default problem with glowsticks - 08-09-08, 07:16 PM

so i have some led glowsticks, the 6 function kind and for some reason one of them keeps turning off when its barely tapped. the other one works fine just one wont stay on and sometimes it wont turn on at all. i'm guessing it has to do with the on button more properly pushing the circuits or not staying touched to it so it shorts out. any ideas?

Get new sticks...My personal opinion, NEVER by LED sticks, if you want an led stick, you should cut off the end of a dead glowstick, empty it out, and then cut the led into it and tape it...A lot of LED sticks are really sensitive, so hitting them on accident, even softly, will turn them off or damage the circuitry inside.

I second this. only i use Inova leds, and instead of putting them on the bottom, i cut two slots on the top sides of the sticks, empty them out, and slide the led's in untill it locks in the middle. they almost never turn of when and if they hit too.

Yeah, and I cut mine different too... Like the tut says to cut the bottom off, but I go to the very bottom and cut out a bit of the center of the bottom piece, then I stick scissors in there and twist them around until they only have the base piece and are smooth cuts...Like mine aren't cut at all, they have be hollowed out of at the bottom, that way when you stick a led in there, it's still 6"s and not 5"s.

if your sticks have battery contacts anywhere, you might try cleaning them with either a Scotchbrite pad or very fine steel wool - corrosion can cause the kind of symptoms you're describing too...you can also clean out the switch with compressed air (like you would use for a computer keyboard) if it isn't a completely enclosed switch.
