Damnit all to hell

I've been trying to do it with my photons and can barely do a stupid chase aaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh

I think I can pull it off with the long leashes because it's a slower move and smoother, as opposed to how fast it comes on with the short lanyards I use to spin my photons. Oh and the weight is waaay different too. i keep hitting my chest and shoulders, I hate this damn move with all my soul

Had to vent, carry on.

My advise....heavier weight.....try sock poi! It will help you with the momentum of this move. Plus it hurts less if you mess up! Slower spinning/longer strings might help a bit. I recommend learning both 2 beats (reverse with either hand on top) before trying 3 beat weaves.....worked for me! BTB weaves are very difficult moves! Don't become discouraged if you don't get it figured out in a short time. It took me 3 months of hardcore practice to figure this out....be patient! It's well worth the wait!

Feel the beat from start to stop, dancin' and groovin' from bottom to top!

that's why i want to learn poi so much haha. it looks more slower and smoother unlike glowstringing where it's fast and furious

LilRB - I'm actually good when I pull out the cathedrals since I can totally feel the movement. My problem is the added weight on the really short leash, it moves too fast and I have no idea where anything is going. I'd say fuck it, but I really only spin lights most of the time, so being able to pull off a move under perfect conditions does nothing for me. I need to be able to pull shit off with morons surrounding me

Seriously, I think it's just like everything else, more time. Once I get it like butter with the long leash, it'll just be a short period to nail it with the lanyards and photons. The only question is, how far from butter am I?

I am also very lax in my practice. I have no set time or definite time frame. I just pick up the lights, spin them around for 5:00 then get back to work...all told, I maybe practice 15 minutes a day...during a good week. I want to add in the cathedrals after my light workout days as a sort of cool down, but I haven't had the time to do it yet (that and the shoulder problem I've been fixing really didn't let me spin anything heavy)...that would fasttrac my learning curve, no doubt.

Sounds like me when I tried applying a lot of my new poi stuff to glowsticking. It took a while (and I still can't do everything) to get anything nearly decent out of glowsticks when I practiced with poi.

Dephect, assuming you're doing all of the standard tips to learn it (I was and still really couldn't get very far) the only thing I can say besides using a longer string, is to learn the 5bt weave. I don't know why, but it just made the BTB click. Go figure...

Dancefloor - you spin how you practice...it's that simple. The more time I spend on one thing, the less time I have for something else. Lately it's been mostly practicing with long strings and Illuminix on the end, so its very light. I'll then pick up my sock poi and be banging my head or getting tangled, the weight is totally different and it takes a little bit to make the necessary adjustments. Forget my photons, it's like swinging baseballs on mini chains...brutal.

Like the 5 beat atomic weave thingy right?
Ive only been spinning for 4 months now haha.
Right now Im working on behind the back stuff, cross overs and combos

Half the stuff Ive learned was by myself though.
Most of it is accidental or experimental learning haha

I'm not sure what the "atomic" one is...just a basic 5bt weave, ck the tuts and you'll get it.

Good luck and have fun with it...

Yeah, longer strings and heavier objects will make it easier to flow....slower and more smoothly. However, you will want to be able to do it with short strings and lighter things too! The hand motions are all the same, it's just gonna be faster. You will really have to be attentive to the weights of the sticks so you can tell where they are in their rotations so you keep up. It will take some practice, but once you figure it out with longer strings, you're past the hard portion!
