Default 5 beat butterweave anyone?? - 04-08-08, 11:48 PM

ive on various boards seen people mentioning the 5 beat butterweave but ive never actually seen it demonstrated. i am now purplexed as i know the 3 bt butterweave and cant comprehend how anyone could possibly squeeze another beat in there. but i thought the same about the 3 bt butterweave before i learned it. can anyone explain how this is done or if its even possible or even supply or link to video of this being done. im desperate here ive been looking everywhere. ive checked through the list and even tho there is the butterfly weave which has very much a similar concept even that only goes up to 4 bts.

brb, going to record what it looks like (well, I think technically it's a 6 beat... but it's not a 4 beat)

If it was up to me, I'd call this a 6bt butterfly weave.

Well, you could do something that involves 4 beat TTN's on both sides...with butterfly weaves, it's really not hard/impressive to keep adding beats, it just looses the 'weave' look. You could sit there and TTN on each side and put on 10 beats per side pretty easy, but really, does it still look like a weave? not really. I personally stick to 2-4 beats myself...maybe something neat like dancefLoor's....or maybe put some butterfly buzzsaws in the middle. Anything with too many beats on this move just looses the effect IMO.

I totally agree, I barely use that in performances, it's fun to do but theres no weave effect.

i dont know it might be just that im doing it some wierd way. but i always thought of the butterfly weave and the butterweave as diffrent. it might just be plains but i can do the 4bt butterfly weave but still theres a distinction. the butterweave i do is doing a weave on a plane similar to the one used in the weave but instead one hand is doing a upward weave while the other one is doing a downward. ive gotten the three beat of this sort of weave involving going under and over and inversly for the upward. and instead of upwards vs downwards it involves left ward spin vs right spin.but the only way this is achived for me is increasing separation as the weaves advance. there is no sideways rocking as we see in the 3 bt and five beat or the butterfly weaves. the entire variation is taken up in the arms. and this is why im struggling to get the 5 bt version(which for this would count five beats) so im going to post a video(if i can figure out how) so that i can hopefully demonstrate what im trying to put across better and then maybe i can find out if what im doing is a move to its self or just me messing up the planes.

Yeah, a vid would def be nice so we can visualize the motions. I always kinda thought butterweaves and butterfly weaves were the same thing, just different nomenclature (the eternal poi semantics...lol). I can def do the 3 beat version where your hands do the weave motions...I'll try to do a weave-style 5 beat sometime if I can figure it out...sounds kinda hard.
