Default How do you hold your string? and my tutorial - 09-01-08, 02:49 AM

My first post by the way, looks like I'm goign to get into Gen X Glow after all, I was just using it to watch and find tutorials now I'm using it as motivation to make one, so with out further a due, durt dert der der duh! My hold totorial:

this was just a little trick a tought myself I've never seen it before, the most common hold has been the "wrap it around ever finger fifty times" way so I was wonder, does that have any advantage? I prefer the way I use it and I'd like it if some people tried it out, (mabey you already use this method) and then posted back on what they think. Good luck, -Glow-

That is the exact same way I do it, your the only other person I have seen do it that way. I love it this way, it is way comfortable and you don't actually have to hold the string with your fingers.

I just started stringing and I'm liking this way to hold them - I wasn't sure at first but this way's really comfortable

I knot my strings together and then make a slip knot on my middle finger

feel the bass pulse through your body and then dance to it

Sweet tutorial....that's a good way to attach your strings on. Almost like a double loop that lots of poi sets have!

I've been spinning on and off for about 2-3 yrs now and I've always spun with the string between my index and middle finger. I've never had problems spinning until recently when i decided to pick up the sticks again and start learning other moves. So far majority of ppl hold the string between their thumb and index finger, except for a few ppl I know (the ones that taught me the basics). Do you guys feel that you have more mobility and control holding it that way? With the string between my index and middle I feel I have more control but I'm starting to feel like it's preventing me from performing some tricks. Any thoughts?

One of the quick ways I tie mine is to just pinch a loop between your fore finger and your thumb, and wrap the string around your whole hand and put the glowstick through the loop, creates a fairly strong hold, but I have a few other ways, thats just the easiest, and quickest.

dude, that is almost exactly how I hold my strings when I actually use strings (I tend to prefer poi). Except, instead of putting the strings between my thumb and index finger, I put them between my index and middle fingers. If I want shorter strings to start, I put the loops around two fingers instead of just one.

By the way - have you made an introduce yourself thread? This is a great tut - welcome to the site:-)

When I first started swinging, I got the worst blisters you can ever imagine. Of course if I would have used better string they would not have been as bad. Onto the point... I tried it between every finger and position imaginable, and yes (to me anyway) it seems the most control is in your index finger and thumb. However, you should reach a point of control where you can release your thumb and still have control by using the weight of your POI (of course not for all trick's, often you will NEED your thumb especially for faster paced spinning). That is just something I've noted and try to show people when teaching.
