Default The Ultimate Tut Pics & Details!!!!!! - 09-03-08, 09:28 PM

ight so there has been a reason i havent been on here much at all lately. Its cause i wanted to expand my talent of poi spinning as far as i can. i happend to find some people that gave good animated pictures and plenty of details of their mad talent! these are some people that have purchased "instruments of the now" and were very nice to be one of the only few people i know (possibly the only people out there) that share the knowledge that they have gained from the dvd. im going to organize this in a way that i think most suits this list. this may be against the rules or be "spam" or something but honestly i could care less cause i just wana spread the love in an "organized" manner. If this happens to anoy any of ya mods then im sorry. NOTICE! i will have 11 posts of all the lessons that i want to share. in all i will have posted 12 posts so if you would please not post till the final one is up then i would love ya! it wont take me all to long to have them all up

PENDULUMS!
Pendulums can be tricky at first but its relativly simple in principle, the main idea here is to have the heads of the poi come close to each other and swing through the "gap" you make for it.

start with a forward weave, drop your right hand and bring your left lower and spin a small circle with it as you change the direction of your right and swing it through, then change sides and do the same thing in reverse on the other side.

start slow and try to bring the heads together and you will crack it in no time

sorry you have to save it. its a bit to big to post on here.

WEAVE STALL COMBO!

i know how people say that by posting up a combo of any kind wont make it "creative" cause its from a vid but i personally know that trying to do these and have a lil mess up and you will learn your own ways.

from any weave, turn 90 degrees into wallplane, isolate both poi in split time for a tiny second before stalling your right over your left arm, then bending your left wrist back and over to stall the left in the same place you stalled the right, from here you want to bring both poi over in a arc infront of your face and stalling your right poi down as the left comes over to stall over your right, then bring the left over followed by your right and back into a weave ..

*note, isolations make stalls very easy, so practice your isos,, ALOT ! lol

BUTTERFLY BUZZSAW COMPOUND CIRCLES!!
yes lilraverboi you already have a tut with this included but i think this is that lil help that some people might need. kudos lilraverboi.

These are a great movement tool.

Best to start with 1 poi. Spin your right poi as a BF Buzzsaw on your left side. On the down beat your arm is going to go down across your body and back up the other side into buzzsaw again. Its kind of like a long arm circle as you go across. This should all be in one beat, although I used 2 to get the feel of it.

Then spin your left poi as a BF Buzzsaw on your left side. This time this poi is going to be on an up beat so your arm goes up across your body and into buzzsaw on the other side. Again in one beat but 2 is good for learning.

Once you got them smooth try with no poi but both arms. Going in big circles in opposite directions. The more you get your arms into the buzzsaw position on the pass the better this move will look.

There are endless variations with these. Same time poi, same way poi, opposite way arms, same way arms etc etc.

BUTTERFLY INSIDES!!!
i personaly loved these. they take a while to learn but they are fun once you do.

Inside butterfly beats are great for transitions. They can be put in with normal butterfly beats too to add some variation.

Basically all you are doing is letting either poi do half its circle inside your arm. Kind of like buzzsaw plane, but turned 90 degrees.

Turning your hand over so it is palm down helps a lot with this as does lifting you elbow a little to avoid crashes.

ARM + LEG (HOOK) COMBO!
this one was pretty hard for me to learn but in the process i learned 3 of my own wrap combos just from messing up lol.

No point explaining in words, just try it

ANTI-GRAVITY INSIDE STALLS!
i havent been able to get this one down yet but it is fun trying to learn it so far.

Firstly, there are two versions in this lesson, there is the right hand stalling on top and the left hand stalling on top, this will able you to turn with it and enables more entries and exits etc...

When starting to learn these you want to get used to going from a weave, turning 90 degrees then doing the stall, not only is this good plane control practice but it also lets you instantly throw the move into your existing repetoir.

so from a forward weave, you turn to your right, swoop your right hand down and infront of you, then up and stalling downwards, while your left hand swoops outward to your left mirroring the right then stalls upwards, it helps to keep your arms apart a little and to deaden the poi when they need to come to a stop.

by "deaden" i mean as the head of the poi reaches the place you want to stall you slacken the tautness and quickly re-take up the slack, thus stopping the poi still and at a controllable stopping distance.

once the stall of both poi take place you need to flick both poi out of the stall and turn 90 degrees to your right again and begin spinning a forward weave.

now to go back to where you come from lol..

so your spinning a forward weave again but this time you need to turn to your left, swoop your LEFT hand down and infront of you, then up and stalling downwards, while your RIGHT hand swoops outward to your left mirroring the left then stalls upwards, exactly the reverse of what you learnt first..

practice this and you`ll soon be doing Anti-Gravity Inside stalls..

BACK TO FRONT UTL COMBO!
ive been having big problems with this one but i will never give up.

This move requires you to do a little bit of footwork.

The move starts with a reverse bf in front of you. What you'll want to do is practice bringing one poi behind your back and have it swing up between your legs so it does one rotation in front of you legs then swings between your legs and back behind you. Practice doing this with both poi till you have it smooth. Now begin working up to the full pattern. Alternate back and forth doing the combo above with first the right poi then the left. When you have this down try doing the full pattern by bringing the second poi behind your back as the first poi goes utl and when the first poi exits utl immediately swing the second poi utl.

Once you are comfortable with the full pattern you can keep swinging the poi alternately utl as long as many times in a row as you want.

NECK WRAP/CONTACT THINGY!
i got it down (hint-if you have glasses take them off)

get long sock poi and just go for the initial wrap around and flicking your head back, it wont take long to get this far.

from there on in, my take on things is to pay the most attention to what your hands are doing when the poi are on thier way up at the back of you, after they meet in the middle on the down beat, go for an upwards circular motion with your hands to give them a little momentum, by the time your hands are on the outside and on thier way down again, the poi should be ready to put back into a butterfly.

This is a great move to do with meteors, as when the poi touch your neck you can let go entirely, and at the end of the move the meteors "pop up" off your neck.

WHIP CATCH!!!
i havent been able to even start this one but im sure some of you mad poisters might figure it out.

I find these easiest if I start spinning split time anti clockwise in wall plane. Counterweights make this MUCH easier too.

Take your left hand under your right arms and let go of your left poi so it sails over both your arms. Slow your right poi down, as if following the other over. As the flying poi's handle is pointing down you need to 'hook' it with your other one.

As the handle points down aim the head of your right poi to catch the handle of the other. It really is a hooking motion. Kind of plucking it out of the air. This is made a lot easier if you angle your planes before the throw. Angling also aids the release.

When you hook it give it a little pull and it should wrap once and fly off. Somewhat unpredictably at first but it can be refined with practice.

Have fun
