Well, it does take some time. Just keep with it, be patient and practice a lot and you'll have it down smooth as butta' in no time flat! Good luck!

I was watching this for help on the weave, and your isolations scared me. Lol.

Any tips on developing plane control when you cross over? My left hand crossed over keeps coming dangerous close to my ear (i can feel the air! O-o). I can do it if it's just the left hand going, but when both are going at once I just wait till I hit myself. ><

Well, I wish I had a magical answer for ya, but honestly, for that it's just practice. The more you do it, the better you will get with it. Maybe practice just holding it on the opposite side and trying to bend your planes around a little (changing the angle at which the poi is spinning). The more spinning you do in that position, the better you will get at it. No real special trick....just practice. Sorry, bro.

LOL about the isolation comment. I just got crazy and on a whim decided to toss that in there just for giggles.

Yeah, I was totally going "Hey look, more weave tutorials-- wait, WHAT THE HELL DID HE JUST DO THAT WAS SO AWESOME BUT IT LOOKED SO FREAKIN HARD!"

Eh, that's what I had expected anyway. I've just barely used my off hand for anything (dirty jokes aside), and well, it just feels so weird to use it. I'm totally not ambidextrous.

just keep practicing =] i actually learned how to do the three beat weave before i did the 2 beat weave. i know it's weird but it was easier for me to get the 2 beat down after knowing the three beat weave.
just don't give up. it took me like 2 and a half weeks to get it down completely

Trust me. I got the three beat weave a hell of a lot earlier than two beats. It just feels more fluid with the switching, since it shifts body weight over.

Three Beat Weaves are more fluid... But most people have a very difficult time with the concept and it just doesn't click. Weaves = The Beginners Worst Enemy! (usually!)

Keij! You sound like you are going to be one of us POI addicts very quickly! Gawd I wish I would have had the proper guidance when I started spinning... I went 6 or more months spinning with a couple friends... (By the time you hit 6 months however, I'd bet you are going to have MAD skills!!) Before I even heard of a 'weave' although I've got to admit, I developed MAD plane control from it... I also have a unique style which I still use for 'light shows' (you know, the e-tards sitting in the dark corners) but my dance style has totally evolved!! I love that I found GenXGlow, and the new tricks, styles, and overall skill it has inspired in me =)

Ahhhh man, I remember when Isolations puzzled me... I wouldn't worry about them just yet, rather I would practice some basic STALLS and isolations will just come naturally with time and developing plane control... Single basic ISO's you'll probably get fairly shortly after mastering your weaves and stalls, however it gets tricky keeping them going and shifting them around...

And about your question for developing plane control... THat just comes with time. The more you spin, the more control you will develop, plane and simple. Remember! Hip / Shoulder reels! In different timings! Then work on turning 180! Just find ways to move the poi around your body, the possibilities are endless!! When I first joined here, I contemplated a set of exercises specifically aimed at developing plane control... I've still got my notes/ideas somewhere, I should finish them and film it =)

PLUR =)

I don't understand how people learn the three beat before the two beat....but whateva. Everyone learns differently. I learned the two beat way before three and didn't really even know about it till someone showed me later (well, then again, I started with absolutely NO resources, so you can figure).

Well, good luck everyone!
