Windmill tut -
10-14-08, 09:09 PM
Can anyone make me a decent windmill tut.? Ive looked on you tube and found a couple, but didnt explain it quite as well as I would have liked. For some reason I just cant get the concept of the figure 8 on a different plane above my head. It wants to start rotating forward, back into a 2 beat forward weave. I tried to study CP's fountain vid and figure out how he was doing the windmill but I still cant quite get it.
Im learning the 5 beat weave before Im learning the windmill, and Im not too sure if thats a good thing. lol
Thanks guys!

Okay, well, I was gonna direct you to the figure 8/windmill tutorial AquaThane made a while back, but it doesn't seem to be working.
If I have time in the next few days, I'll try to make a new windmill tutorial for the site, cause we definitely need to have one on here as it is a pretty vital move to learn.
As for learning the 5 beat weave before the windmill, that isn't the order I learned it in, but I realize that everyone learns differently, and maybe for you that's fine. I'd say it'd be more beneficial to learn all the 2 and 3 beat weave moves (2, 3 beat weave in forward/reverse, windmill, fountains, corkscrew) before moving on, but whatever feels right for you.

Yeah, I have the 2 beat and 3 beat revers/forward weaves down no problem. I cant do fountains really well due to the fact that I cant do a windmill, lol. The corkscrew is kinda weird for me right now because Im having a little trouble training my hands to do the figure 8, but it will get there.
The only reason I started this thread was because Aqua's tut was down (as are most all of his tutorials).

weird. we should kick him and get him to make those active again, cause his windmill tut is GREAT!!! It says that the video has been removed by the user...I wonder if he's been having spamming issues like some fo our otehr folks?

Yeah, they were very helpful and I'm a little miffed as to why they were taken down. I did approach him a while back about the freehand ones cause people had commented that they weren't working. Not sure, without checking, whether they are back up or not.

So it was really slow at work today so I broke out my sticks in the back room and I FINALLY got the corkscrew down. Trained my hands for about 30 minutes just doing the figure 8 motion and I nailed it.
With that you would figure my windmill would come pretty easily. Ive definitely made improvement but I can -sordof- do a proper windmill only with my hands spread far apart from each other. When Im spinning the sticks my hands are above my shoulders, not my head.
SO CLOSE ><

Well, it's not a direct change-over from corkscrew to windmill....a full 90 degrees of plane change are necessary. This might take some time, but knowing the corkscrew is a HUGE step in the right direction. Sorry I haven't gotten my tutorial made yet, I've been SUPER busy this week!!! I plan to make it tomorrow or Sat. so it will no doubt be up soon. Sounds like you're doing well and moving in the right direction!!! Keep with it and maybe you'll beat me to the punch!!

Thanks LBR. I would still love to have a tutorial of yours. Just showing how to get into a windmill with ease/getting out with ease kinda thing. I really dont know why Im having to much trouble with windmills *shrug*. Either way, a tutorial vid would be AWESOME.
