Well, there is one version that you can get into from a forward butterfly and there is another version that you can get into from a reverse butterfly. You could also do split timing....so that makes 4 versions, actually.
The key thing with poi is to remember.....for EVERY move....there is a forward and reverse....and usually there is a split-time and regular-time and also a butterfly/same spin....and some moves can be more easily isolated or antispun. The key is forward/reverse.....so there are always two versions of everything.

Yeah, I don't really understand what you're describing, but it doesn't sound like a meltdown. The vid above is a butterfly meltdown and I have a tutorial on regular meltdowns in the tut section. Can you do a vid of what you're describing?? Then I could probably tell you what it is.
