But 'Pre-battle'? You're going to be in a battle? Glowstringing/dancing/nunchucking (lol) those are all fun, and everyone here on gxg would encourage you to do them without hesitation.. but what we don't encourage is battling, or contests..

We do these things because we love them and not to prove ourselves better than anybody else. :3

Okay, first off....I like your video....it had some great moves encompassed in it and you've got a nice flow. Keep up the good work.

However, what I don't like is that you are promoting battling. This site does NOT allow any sort of battling or promote these sorts of ideals. Glowsticking/glowchucking/poi/staff/contact juggling/ropedart/hoop/etc are skills that are a means of creative expression....NOT a competition to see who is better. Please refrain from posting any more battle-promoting videos on this site....and moreover, I urge you to rethink your stance on battles.

im really sorry about offending your morals or conceptions. which is why i didnt say battle vid in the post. this video is not battle related it is just me practicing and i thought youd like it here. ive already had one thread locked because it was battle related, please dont lock this one, i do freestyle nunchaku because its one of the funnest thing ive found in life, and im the kind of person thats driven by personal progress. if i improve i feel it was worth the time. its all about the art for me, and this isnt propaganda...... i was never going to release the real battle vid on this site for the reason that you dont like that kind of stuff and i respect that, but the things i do on another forum shoudlnt bar me from participating in this one. i love gen x glow i want people here to see the cool stuff you can do with glowchucks. and hopefully inspire someone to try it themselves. i will post no more vids here that i post on www.freestyleforum.net i will make gen x glow vids for here. i love you guys P.L.U.R. and may the universe bless you.

With that now aside, WOW that was amazing i had no idae you coudl do all that with glowchucks!!! now u need 2 do that with 2 xD great video man. it was uber sexy =)

Well, you are right that we cannot ban you for your activities on other websites.....However, I think that this should be something you should want to change on your own. Cause to me, it's kinda like living a lie....you shouldn't have to be covert or stealthy about the things you do. It'd be like me acting like I was a super-liberal democrat talking it up to everyone about how much I like Obama....and then voting for McCain. People don't usually respect that which we lie about or hide from them.

That's my input. We won't take any action against you as long as you keep battling propaganda off this site, but I honestly hope you rethink this practice on your own, off the site.

We promote competition, because competition gives people extra motivation to achieve their best. Ladder battles are a way of engaging directly with other individuals within the community, and seeking the rest of the community's participation in that engagement. The mod of GenXGlow is clearly of the opinion that competition for any artistic endeavor is an intrinsically bad thing - but personally I think that's a naive perspective - competition is a powerful force in any community, it inspires motivation, participation, support, criticism, debate, tradition and ambition - the driving forces of a community's progress.

This difference of viewpoint probably stems from the history - glowsticking is born of dance, freechaku is born of martial arts. When you talk glowchucks, you're straddling that fault line. We're sublimating the ancestral combat of our art, not despoiling it's purity

Well, I do agree with you that glowchucking is kinda on the line between art-form and martial arts. However, even martial arts is more about self defense and not just kicking ass. I really don't want this thread to turn into a battling/anti-battling discussion. Technically poi derived from both artistic/graceful movement AND battle tactics, so it has ties in martial arts too. However, these ties are so far from what poi has evolved into today. The points you bring up about battling are the same things I've heard from plenty of others, yet, the negativity still outweighs all of this. Do what you do for the enjoyment of it....teach others what you know.....but DON'T compete. So many things in life become a competition....we need activities to exist that balance out that....things that are purely fun and have no competetive component. I disagree that competition is a necessary component of a community.....and it is DEFINITELY not welcomed here. Progress can be achieved in so many other more beautiful and more rewarding ways...these are the methods we condone here at GenXGlow.

To me, there are such wide variations in styles, it's IMPOSSIBLE to accurately judge competitions such as glowchucking unless there is physical combat (again, bad idea). It's all subjective, really. And if you can't accurately judge it, why compete in the first place? It'd be hard for me to say that someone who does all wraps is wrong or less talented than I am....but in a competition, certain things could be rewarded....thus, guiding all contributers to a common locale. This is not what we want. I would like to see people develop in their OWN ways, not to be guided by what people tell them they want to see via competitive displays.
