Boarding School Glowstringing -

hey guys, im new to GenXGlow and definitely new to glowstringing. i go to boarding school and theres nothing to do, movies and tv shows lose their fun pretty quickly and no one can ever think of anything to do. i discovered glowstringing and i think it would be perfect to practice, so i wanna get into it slowly and steadily and have fun along the way. i guess im looking for advice, a lot of the forums and threads have been incredibly helpful. i wanna know whats the best way to start glowstringing, how do you limit your use of glowsticks (obviously the light dies down after a while), and what did you find the hardest when you began glowstringing? also if theres any common sense stuff i should know, please tell it! thx a ton!~

3 intensity types of glowsticks... Ultras (which are REALLY REALLY bright for 5 minutes), Highs (Not as bright, but still pretty bright for 30 minutes), and the regulars which stay lit about 6 hours...If you stick a glowstick in the freezer, it will freeze and stop the glow, and will glow again when it unthaws, but beware, doing this shortens the overall glow time of the stick...And glowsticks are temperature sensitive, the warmer the area where you crack them, the brighter they glow...Stick a glowstick in the microwave after cracking it NO LONGER THAN 10 SECONDS, and when you pull it out it will be brighter... Most people don't know that trick.... But be careful, if you put it in too long, the glowstick can either explode, or the plastic melts and then you have to clean up melted plastic and cyalume...BTW, Cyalume (pronounced Sigh*Loom) is the chemical in the glowstick that mixes and causes the glow, and if you ever get it on you, it's okay, but try your best to NOT get it in open wounds or new still pink skin, cuz it burns like hell...

Whats up!, cool to see your getting into glowstringing. As siler Stated freezing glowsticks and then microwaving them later on for a performances comes in handy alot of times. Also most people practice with old glowsticks and save new ones for a good performance. Have fun wit it!

I have one comment. You can crack sticks whenever the hell you want! When I first started stringing, I craked sticks almost every night because I was obsessed with the way it looked. I haven't craked a pair in about two weeks today, but I will be tomorrow >.> Anyway, if you want to practice with them cracked, you should... but when you're doing a performance, you should crack them right when you start.
If you like to only practice with lit sticks, freezing/thawing them out will make a stick last about a week or so depending on how much practicing you do. I just don't like doing it because they get so dim >.<

yea that sounds cool. i feel like it would be easier to see your mistakes when theyre cracked and a lot more entertaining for practice, which pushes you to practice even more =]

Yeah, but when you do it long enough, you can see the tracers even if they aren't cracked...Gotta love the poi vision.
