MEMF-Midwest Electronic Music Festival -

Okay....MEMF was this past weekend (June 27-29). Of all the parties I've gone to, this one had some of the BEST potential. However, it was a serious disappointment for me and here's why...
First, security was VERY tight....they searched every person who came in very carefully (each time they came in from the outside/camping area) and no backpacks, water bottles, etc were allowed in. They searched every car that went through the gates....including DJ's and vendors. They opened up every single bag and went through everything....they even took my unopened bottle of booze! (major BOOOO!). Beyond that, they were major assholes to everyone....including DJ's and promoters many who they seriously pissed off. They told them to pick up trash and stuff before they'd let em come in....and were very rude even teased/made fun of them from what I heard....NOT COOL. They made a huge deal of me spinning fire even though I had a spotter, fire blanket and followed ALL safety precautions very carefully....apparently I needed to okay it EVERY time with security....for a fire performance outside the gates, they wanted 5 security guards around the people spinning (and these people were good/seasoned spinners, mind you)....not that they would even know/be able to do anything should someone catch flame or a problem arise. Next, the second day, they decided to make it their own rule (cause they're lazy and didn't want to search so many people all night) that if you entered, you couldn't leave till 2 AM.
Next, the cops showed up again and again. They were walking around the parking lot arresting people and the party apparently hadn't been cleared by the city cause they didn't know about it at all. Word had it that they gave the person in charge some sort of ticket. Many of the stages were shut down early or turned WAY down (plus NO bass) and doors shut.
Lastly, the weather took a turn for the worse....75 mph winds and torrential rains raped the shit outa our tents. Several tents went rolling like tumble weeds and a tree broke off. We ducked under our rain cover when it started raining and getting really bad after taking the tent down so it didn't blow away. We left Sat. afternoon and got a hotel cause it was so crazy and lame.
This event was NOT well organized and apparently didn't go through the correct channels to make everything happen smoothly. I had a lot of fun the first night, but there was a lot of unnecessary drama throughout the entire event. It turns out, some of the DJ's on the flyer hadn't even been booked. If they have this next year (which I doubt)....I don't think I'm gonna waste my time and efforts.....I was so disappointed.
However, the redeeming quality of the event was meeting all the GXG people and promoting the site....met lots of AWESOME people and made some great friends. I would say that was the best part of the whole weekend, bar none.

Well, yeah....it was super disappointing, but don't get me wrong.....the GXG people are AMAAAAAAAAAAZING! Every one of them I met was such a great person with an awesome vibe. The other people at the party were pretty cool and I think we'll be having quite a few new members because of this event. I can't wait to see them all again!!

So...was anyone else on top of the hill tripping BALLS when the huge monsoon/hailstorm ate the campground? Cuz DAMN! I had a lot of fun, but the event was definitely not set up well at all. No electricity/running water for campers, security were assholes-after the hailstorm, they drove around the campsite in their little vehicles making sure we all had our wristbands. Wtf. Not once did I hear them ask if everyone was ok, which given how bad the weather got, people could very well have gotten hurt. Many DJs didn't get to play, everything seemed disorganized, only I think like 2 food/drink vendors even showed up. Lol, 13 days away from being 21, and the guy didn't X my hands. I *could* have bought alcohol....but no vendors showed up to sell any. Lameness. Anyways, my friends and I definitely did have a good time, mainly due to tons of awesome people (though not nearly enough).

Well, we were at the bottom of the hill and received all that blew down from your area at the top....no running water was a concern of mine, personally as well...LAME. I agree with the asshole security, but they did ask us if we were okay after the storm rather than being their usual bullshit douche-bag selves. Shit was definitely unorganized and yeah, no alc vendors....plus they took mine, so I was super pissed!!! Like you said, the people definitely made the best impression on me....and the music was good (before they turned it down and shut it off!).

I got to break in our brand new Rexroat sound system. The one in the Bakpak stage with all the awesome lasers. I guess a bunch of people actually thought our stage was the mainroom.
Also, I got a GxG shirt, so now I'm official.
It was great meeting a few GxG kids, and I hope to see you again soon!

my time at MEMF -

yeah security sucked hardcore. I trekked 'cross the country (extra hug to my Belgian roadtrippin companion) with only 2 small packs only to be told I couldn't bring a bag inside. wtf?!? luckily the GxG crowd came to my rescue with an offer to lock my stuff in Ukee's car. yay! there weren't many people there and everyone was really scattered by the A.D.D. mishmosh of minibooths BUT the few ravers I did find to chill with were more than awesome, truly some quality individuals. bonus points to the crazy mothman w/ the laserpointer junk...he made me giggle. probably would've put up with the pitiful organization and the ego-trippin enforcers had it not been for the midwestern hurricane collapsin our tents on us. hotel room = great idea. bunch of GxG ravers hittin a restaurant in full bouncy candycoated silly mode = even better idea. yes the event blew but the experience was so worth it.
