i'm not really sure how they calculate it for them, but when i used to use a Bo, karate staff also known as rokushakubo, it was just about 6 feet. give or take. but that was weapon based and it was over my head. i would suppose you would want it under your head. so i would say a good place to find out is to go to a hardware store, and find wooden dowels. give them a try. you probably want something around ground to maybe chest or shoulder high at most.

*Thread moved to appropriate forum* 'Poi Discussion' is for poi and all other prop-manipulations.

As for staff length...it really is all about preference and desired usage. Most people who do contact staff that I know prefer longer staves since they will move a little slower/have more momentum. 4-5' seems to be pretty typical but some people use staves up to about 6'. As for double staff....they're typically around 3-4' from my experience.

Yo, deffintaly longer is easier for contact, i prefer a length about 5 foot but mess around with some broom handles etc to get a good feel, if your doubling it then you want it around 3-4 what ever you are comfy with, i use 3.5 foot for double, i don't know if you can order that i just use dowels.

Pracatice with stuff first, cuz those bitches are expensive and it would suck to get a size you don't like

Yeah, I agree....figure out what length you prefer before ordering a real set....cause money doesn't grow on trees, unfortunately.

I might order a second one but damn them things are expensive. Seems like i could of made it myself for way cheaper. But o well.
