Nah, I've never had hand cramps...but I've had some sore arm/wrist muscles and the occasional joint (hehehhee *pun intended* two can play at that game!) The key thing with poi is that you are usually using/developing odd muscles that you rarely use, so being sore just means they are getting stronger. If it's not a huge bother, keep with it.
