Yea your just not getting enough time to draw things out cleanly.

I took a look at the user guide and it only has a max exposure time of 4 seconds. That means you have only 4 seconds to write things in the air. When I do mine I have my camera set for a 32 second exposure so that I have time to spend writing things. Not sure what you can do to remedy that.
