Composed of America’s most popular drum and bass DJ’s, AK1200 (Dave Minner), DieselBoy (Damian Higgins), DJ Dara (Darragh Guilfoyle), And MC Messinian (James Fiorella) first came together to merely to have an outlet for the men to play together at shows and events. It formed, however, into something a little more. “We feel that it is our calling to, not only promote quality drum and bass stateside, but also help provide a voice for our scene as well. Our music has languished in small back rooms on undersized sound rigs for far too long.” Success for the boys would be an understatement in that they have now been dubbed with the honor of being the longest running annual national electronic dance music tour of any genre. So upon this ten year anniversary, we will continue to support the four men with one vision at Venus Music And Arts Festival.
Often times, those of us who have been in the scene longer, tend to hold on to our favorite genres in the EDM scene, like house, trance, breaks, because we have discover that that is what we like most and so that is all we go out to support . However, by doing so, we inadvertently shun out the myriad of other stylings, making it harder for those djs in less popular genres to break out. I must reiterate that one of the core virtues of Venus, is to help reunite the EDM scene. Now, more then ever, we must come together for the sake of the scene itself. And by doing so, we can keep the true meaning of PLUR going. Dave Minner said it best, “Through unification we hope to increase awareness, improve conditions for junglists nationwide and let everyone know that drum and bass isn’t just dance music, it is a way of life. The days of the ‘side room’ need to come to an end… our music deserves its place in the main room.”
The Planet of the Drums members represent the people, like Brad Crook And Robert Clark, trying to make a positive stamp on our scene. And even if you do not like drum and bass, I hope that you can appreciate the message they are trying to spread. Please support your local drum and bass, hardstyle, jumpstyle, happy hardcore, minimal, fidget, trance, breaks, dubstep, ALL scene, promoters, djs and producers. If we don’t, EDM is just a house, not a home.
“If I am close to the music, and you are close to the music, we are close to each other.” -Bono
