I have seen many documentaries but never one that catches your attention as much as this one has mine. From the dance clubs across the USA, to the copyright office in Washington, Brett Gaylor pulls you deep into today’s knowledge of music and culture.
Over the last decade sample based music has made its place in the music industry. Although the major labels are not happy about the use of their music to influence new culture. A young director by the name of Brett Gaylor has taken it upon himself to take a closer look at the subject with, “RIP – A Remix Manifesto”. A new documentary that explores the science of Mash ups, sample based music, and revised art.
This film is a fun journey around the world to see how music culture has evolved and how the major companies are trying to put a stop to it. I have seen many documentaries but never one that catches your attention as much as this one has mine. From the dance clubs across the USA, to the copyright office in Washington, Brett Gaylor pulls you deep into today’s knowledge of music and culture. In the two hours of this film’s viewing, I saw things that really shocked me. From the music labels to the publishers and the lobbiest who protect the music industry, it has become a massive market that is controlled by the big corporate companies. You only hear the catchy tunes on the radio for a reason. We have become so focused on this creative process, that the over all product has become stale to the listener.
From what I see, this movie encourages inspiration on all forms of art. It demonstrates that anyone can be inspired from someone else’s views and art. It is only human nature that great things repeat themselves and be revised. With this in depth look at the industry of art, I have a better understanding of how the audience is the driving factor in the end. It all goes back to, “Who controls the past, controls the future; who controls the present, controls the past”. This film was well worth the time and money I invested. If you visit their website (www.ripremix.com), you can name your own price when you purchase the film. Overall, a good time, thumbs up!

Good read. I read this sometime about a week or two ago, good movie. I am not really a fan of “GIRL TALK”, but the movie and it’s views I whole heartedly agree with. I have felt that way since a became a producer and lots of others feel the exact same way! It is part of who we are as people that we all use our past to influence us today, even Metallica had to have an influence and use a couple notes or two from something else, or get an idea from a song they liked, its only when they have money and turn into greedy sons a bitches and there music turns to shit!
