10 Things you need to know about Venus. It will answer questions and fill you in on things you may have not known.

If you haven’t heard of Venus Music And Arts Festival yet, I imagine that you are probably living under the same rock as Osama Bin Laden (and if that’s the case, what’s he like, I’d love to know…can you get me an interview?). But because I am such an awesome person, I’ll brief you on the greatness that is getting ready to take place; Venus is going to be a three-day festival with non-stop electronic dance music on multiple stages.  And if that wasn’t enough, there will also be workshops, fire artists competitions, graffiti exhibition, and an art market.

10 – It’s a Festival

I know what you’re thinking, “SWEET! Non-stop EDM for three days?? I Love raves!!!” Which brings me to my first point…This is not a rave.  Raves are dance parties that just won the lottery.  Dingy warehouse in some super remote location so that the law doesn’t find you accompanied with creepy people (you know, the one who no one knows who brought them or even how they found out about it) that keep hitting you in the face with glow sticks because they’re trying to give you a light show, is my interpretation of a rave.  This is a fes⋅ti⋅val / [fes-tuh-vuhl] a period or program of festive activities, cultural events, or entertainment.

9 – International Talent

Now onto those of you who think that this is just a showcase of only local artists.  Uh, yeah no do some research.  End:theDJ, based out of San Diego, CA, is currently ranked #1 Industrial DJ on www.thedjlist.com. Bioluminescense’s Cherokee (RPO remix) is featured on John 00′ Fleming’s new mix ‘Psy Trance Euphoria 2’ on Ministry Of Sound. The CD features tracks from Astral Projection, also set to take the PLUR production stage at Venus.  And if you haven’t heard of Reid Speed, or Dieselboy, well then I’m going to curl up in the fetal position and cry a lot.  The beauty of this festival is that it will bring big names while showcasing local artists, who arguably, are just as talented as the big names…they just needed to be given a chance.

8 – Clean and Safe

So you’ve got your tent, steaks, and big bottle of Burnetts Vodka so that you can remain wasted the entire weekend…good for you! However, I should let you in on a little secret. This will not be a drunk-a-thon, or a drug fest.  Moreover, liquor is not even allowed on the camp site.  There will be beer gardens strategically placed on the grounds.  And if you read the flier closely you would’ve seen see this : NOTICE: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO BRING ILLEGAL DRUGS AND/OR WEAPONS ONTO THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS. A STRICT BODY/BAGGAGE SEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE GATE.  FOR THE SAFETY AND PROTECTION OF ALL ATTENDEES, LAW ENFORECEMENT WILL BE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES.  So please, don’t be the person that ruins it for everybody.

7 – Bring the Whole Family

While the EDM scene is overwhelmingly inhabited by people who are young adults, this festival is by no means targeted to solely that age group.  In fact, if you were thinking this was going to be a “kid” free weekend…nope, wrong again.  Families are encouraged to come! Besides, shouldn’t we start the new wave of the scene early before the bubble gum pop monster attacks them?

6 – A Festival for Everyone

Don’t be one of those “selfish ravers.”  The term in itself is redundant, but there some out there who think this is For Ravers Only. Are we not the ones who scream Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect at the top of our lungs?  What is unifying about the word ‘only?’  I encourage you to bring your friends that make fun of your UFO pants, or your fuzzy leg warmers—maybe they’ll finally get it.

5 – It’s a Deal

Too Expensive… Ultra Music Festival- two days $129.00 Electric Zoo- two days $180.00 Venus- three days $65.00…you do the math, I’m already aware that I’m right.

4 – Be Smart

WOOO GIRLS GONE WILD!!! WOOO SHOW US YOUR BOOBS!!! Yeah no, this isn’t Woodstock.  And it only takes one sour grape to ruin the bunch.  So if you think that everything it allowed, that would be a negative.  Play it smart—remember, don’t give anyone a reason to question your actions.

3 – Massive

This is small scale, I’m staying home…12,000 person capacity covered amphitheater isn’t something I’d necessarily call small scale.

2 – EDM is Bigger than Ever

Ever wondered why every remix to ‘Boom Boom Pow’ sounded exactly like the original? The song already was electro house…Which comes to my next point; so much of the radio these days is heavily influenced with EDM styles.  Hip-Hop is just Break Beats gone obscene, 3Oh!3 is a dub mix away from being on a Head Kandi CD—see? You can’t say the scene is dead why bother with a festival of this magnitude, because not only is the scene alive, it’s seeping into the radio…I mean David Guetta is on the radio…put that in your pipe.

I want people to walk away from Venus with more than a good time.  Venus is going to help people to get along and also it will change someone’s life forever in a positive way.
